Based in New Buffalo, Michigan, Fourneau works with both private and commercial clients in the Great Lakes region to design and fabricate tools for cooking, growing, and enjoying food.
Custom projects are led by Fourneau's principal designer and founder, Ted Burdett. After two decades working in product design and 16 years of as a professor of design at the University of Illinois at Chicago, Ted has developed a deep knowledge of design process and has assembled a talented creative team.

Working with Katie (owner of Farmette), we discussed design considerations, including the size, functionality, and overall look of the fire pits. Katie's vision was clear: she wanted a fire pit that would serve as both a source of warmth and a stylish focal point for the store’s outdoor area. For events, the fire pit would need to serve as a grill for outdoor cooking.
We settled on a 30” elevated fire pit, a size that provides an ideal balance between presence and practicality. The elevated design ensures that the fire pit is easily visible and accessible, creating a welcoming atmosphere for customers. The minimalist design features clean lines and a sleek silhouette, perfectly complementing Farmette’s modern, understated aesthetic.
One of the standout features of this custom fire pit is its ability to double as a multilevel grill. This was achieved through the incorporation of a thoughtfully designed adjustable "mast". The adjustability allows precise control over cooking temperatures and positions.
We couldn’t be happier with this unique fire pit. It will undoubtedly become the perfect centerpiece for Farmette’s outdoor space, promising to provide warmth, ambiance, and a touch of elegance for years to come. We loved this design so much we’ve made it available here.
